Bring your family together in the UK
You may want your child to join you, need to extend a family member’s permission or be exploring whether you can live with your child in the UK.
Knightsbridge helps you identify the relevant route, understand the requirements and establish what evidence and application work you need.
Tell us who needs to apply, where each person lives and the UK family member’s immigration status. We will explain whether we can assist, the appropriate service and its fees.
About these routes
Different family relationships lead to different applications:
- Children joining a parent: the parent’s status, the child’s age and arrangements for their upbringing matter.
- Parents of children in the UK: eligibility depends on the child’s circumstances and the parent’s responsibility, involvement and care arrangements.
- Visa dependants: eligible partners and children may apply under the rules attached to the main applicant’s immigration route.
Spouse and partner applications are explained on our dedicated Spouse Visa page.
We establish the relevant category before assessing its requirements.
Eligibility Check
The starting questions are:
- What is the family relationship, and how can it be evidenced?
- What nationality or immigration status does the UK family member hold?
- Where is each applicant living, and what permission do they currently have?
- For children, what are their ages, immigration histories and care arrangements?
- What financial support and accommodation will be available?
- Are there language, health or other requirements for the relevant route?
A family relationship is the starting point. The particular route determines whether an application is available.
Understanding your situation
Family arrangements do not always fit a simple pattern. A child may live overseas with another parent, family members may have different expiry dates, or the main applicant may be changing immigration route.
We examine who needs permission, how the applications relate to each other and which dates matter. We also establish what evidence is available and whether a specific question needs assessment before preparation begins.
How Knightsbridge Helps
For an agreed application service, we assess the relevant requirements and provide a tailored document request for each applicant.
We review the evidence of the relationship, immigration status, finances, accommodation and any relevant care arrangements. We identify gaps, prepare the application and supporting explanation, and review the information with you.
We guide you through identity and evidence requirements and handle the submission and follow-up included in your agreed service.
Addressing Challenges
When several family members are applying, we check how their permissions and application dates fit together.
Where a child lives with another parent, we establish which responsibility and care requirements apply and whether further assessment is needed before application work can be agreed.
For a parent application, evidence of an active role in the child’s upbringing can be important. We identify the relevant records and any matters requiring further assessment.
Timescales and Costs
Preparation depends on route selection, available records and any additional assessment. We explain the timetable and what you need to provide before work begins.
Standard parent or child family visa applications from overseas usually take 12 weeks. UK processing times depend on the category and circumstances.
For those family visa categories, the current standard application fee is £2,064 overseas or £1,407 in the UK per person, plus the Immigration Health Surcharge where payable. Other dependant routes have different charges.
We confirm our professional fee, applicant coverage and any applicable VAT in writing. Translation, testing and any available priority service cost extra.
Situations requiring closer analysis
Children approaching adulthood, disputed parental responsibility, adult relatives needing care, previous refusals or uncertain immigration status require closer consideration.
We first establish the relevant route and whether we can assist before agreeing further work.
