Knightsbridge Immigration started with a simple idea. Immigration advice should begin by understanding the person, not by filling in a form.
Where It Started
For our founder, Abdul Basit Jabbar, immigration had long been part of his family history. His grandfather came to Britain in the 1960s, and his parents later built their life here. Basit spent years involved in community work, from local radio and youth work to supporting people facing homelessness through the YMCA.
Those experiences taught him this. People often know what they want to achieve, but they do not always know how to get there.
When Basit married his wife, who is from Pakistan, that lesson became personal.
When Immigration Became Personal
At first, he thought immigration was mainly about completing the right form and providing the documents listed by the government. Then he came across the financial requirement.
Basit worked for a charity. His income was not straightforward and his payslips were inconsistent. The government guidance gave him the basics, but understanding how the rules applied to his circumstances was much harder.
Finding clear advice was difficult. What he needed was someone to listen properly, understand the situation and explain what mattered. That changed the way he thought about immigration.
It was not just a form. It was a strategy.
From Experience to Practice
Basit started studying immigration in detail. He took courses, spent weekends gaining experience at a friend’s solicitor firm and developed his understanding of how rules and evidence work together. After several years working within a law firm and developing a deeper understanding of the breadth and complexity of UK immigration, he qualified as an immigration adviser authorised and regulated by the Immigration Advice Authority.
The more he learned, the clearer it became. Two people may apply under the same immigration route, but their cases can still be worlds apart. A requirement may be met in principle, but the evidence still needs to show it properly. A date can change the timing of an application. A client’s first explanation can change once the right questions are asked.
Sometimes the right answer is to apply. Sometimes it is to wait, gather better evidence or look at the bigger picture first. The small details which are often missed, hold the key.
How That Shapes Knightsbridge
That thinking became part of the foundation of Knightsbridge Immigration. We start by listening. What is the client trying to achieve? What is their history? What does the evidence actually show? What is missing?
Only then do we look at the application itself.
People often think immigration is just a form. How complicated can it really be? But that view can change very quickly once you start looking at the rules and evidence in detail. A rule that applies in one case may not apply in another.
One application may need a particular document while another needs something completely different. A statement made on the form may need evidence to support it, and sometimes that evidence raises further questions that need evidence of their own.
It can quickly become a chain. That is why we do not start with the form. We start with the circumstances, the rules and the evidence, then build the application around them. We build timelines. We test assumptions. We explain the rules in plain language and make sure clients understand why we recommend a particular approach.
Every application is treated as its own project because immigration advice is not one size fits all.
That is also why advice on platforms such as TikTok and Pinterest can be misleading. Most of it is generic. Something that worked perfectly well for one person may not work for someone else with different circumstances.
You can often see that in the comments. One person says the advice worked for them, while another says they followed the same steps and had a completely different experience.
The difference is usually in the detail.
Immigration advice needs to be applied to the individual case, not copied from somebody else’s.
Knightsbridge was created to offer the personal attention of a boutique immigration practice while remaining accessible and affordable.
For us, premium service is about listening properly, understanding the detail and giving clear advice.Behind every application is something bigger. A family, a career, a business or a future someone is trying to build.
That is why our first question remains simple.
What are you trying to achieve?
Once we understand that, we can start working out the way forward.
