UK immigration advice for technology professionals

Your next career move may involve joining a UK technology company, taking on a senior role or gaining greater freedom to develop your own work. Your immigration arrangements need to support that move.

Knightsbridge Immigration advises software engineers, data specialists, cybersecurity professionals and product leaders. We assess your proposed work, professional background and current permission, helping you understand the options, evidence and timing before committing to the next stage of your career.

Take up a UK technology role

For the Skilled Worker route, an employment offer needs to be considered alongside the employer’s sponsorship arrangements, the duties of the position and the applicable salary requirements.

Technology job titles can cover very different responsibilities. We examine the work you will actually perform when assessing the proposed role against the immigration requirements.

Our advice explains what is needed from you and your employer, which application steps must happen first and what may affect your intended start date.

Explore greater flexibility through Global Talent

For eligible leaders and potential leaders in digital technology, Global Talent allows employment, self-employment and company directorship. A job offer is not required.

The route can be relevant to technical professionals and people with qualifying commercial or digital product expertise. Endorsement is usually required unless you hold an eligible prize.

We assess how your background relates to the criteria and explain how this route compares with sponsored employment where both merit consideration. This helps you weigh the preparation involved against your preferred working arrangements.

Make your individual contribution clear

For a Global Talent endorsement assessment, your professional record needs to demonstrate the relevant criteria. Developing a product, leading a technical team or contributing to commercial growth may provide useful evidence, depending on the circumstances.

A product’s success needs to be connected to your own contribution. We examine what the supporting material establishes about your responsibilities, achievements and impact.

We review the evidence against the applicable criteria, identify gaps and explain what further support may be needed. You can then judge whether to proceed, gather additional evidence or consider another route.

Plan a change of employer or role

If you already work in the UK, a new opportunity should be assessed alongside your current permission.

Moving to a new employer under the Skilled Worker route normally requires a new Certificate of Sponsorship and an application to update your visa. You should normally receive permission for the new job before starting it. Certain changes of role also require an application.

We consider the proposed duties, sponsorship arrangements, visa expiry date and notice period together, helping you plan the transition around the immigration steps.

Consider your wider career and family plans

The High Potential Individual route may provide another option if you hold a qualifying degree awarded by an eligible overseas university within the last five years and meet the remaining requirements.

If you intend to establish a business, our Entrepreneurs & Business Owners page explains the advice relevant to that situation.

We also consider any partner or children moving with you and how the options relate to your longer-term plans. Where application preparation is agreed, we explain the work we will handle and the information needed from you.

Discuss your next career move

Tell us about your work, current immigration position and the opportunity you are considering. Include any visa expiry date or proposed start date.

You can begin with a short description of your circumstances. We will explain what further information is needed, whether we can assist and which assessment or service is appropriate.

We explain the scope and fees before you decide to proceed.
