UK immigration advice for couples and families

Living together, raising children and planning a future should come with a clear understanding of your immigration position. When family members are in different countries, decisions about work, housing and school often depend on getting that position right.

Knightsbridge Immigration helps couples and families prepare for life together in the UK. We explain the available routes, assess the requirements and help you organise an application around your circumstances and plans.

Join your partner in the UK

You may be married and living apart, planning your wedding or ready to build a home together after a long-distance relationship.

The appropriate route depends on your relationship, your partner’s nationality or immigration status and where you are applying from. A Spouse Visa, unmarried partner application or fiancé route may be relevant.

We review your relationship history and explain how to evidence it. If work, study or cultural circumstances have kept you from living together, we consider those facts when assessing your options and the evidence needed.

Understand the financial requirements

One of the first questions couples ask is whether their income is enough. The answer also depends on whose income can count, how it is earned and the period the evidence must cover.

Employment, self-employment, savings and other permitted sources each have their own requirements. The rules applicable to an extension may also differ from those for a first application.

We assess the relevant financial category and identify the supporting documents. This gives you a practical basis for deciding when to apply, particularly if you have recently changed jobs, have variable earnings or are relying on savings.

Plan for your children

When children are part of the move, their position needs individual attention. Their nationality, age, existing permission and their parents’ circumstances can affect whether they need an application and which requirements apply.

We review the family’s circumstances together, including where children live and who is responsible for their care. We then explain the applications and evidence needed for each eligible family member.

Our Family Members services help you coordinate that preparation, so your plans account for everyone moving or remaining in the UK.

Join someone working or studying in the UK

If your partner holds a UK work or study visa, the relevant option may be a dependant application under their immigration route.

Eligibility varies between routes, and some restrict who can bring a partner or children. We check the main applicant’s permission, your relationship and the requirements that apply to you.

We also explain how application timing and permission dates fit together, whether you are moving as a family or joining someone already here.

Continue your family life in the UK

If you already live together in the UK, an approaching visa expiry date is an opportunity to review the next stage.

We can assess whether you qualify for an extension or Indefinite Leave to Remain, taking account of your immigration history and current circumstances. Changes in employment, income or family arrangements may affect the evidence required.

Planning ahead gives you time to obtain documents, address gaps and understand when your next application should be made.

Discuss your family’s next step

You do not need to arrive with a completed document bundle or know which application to choose.

Tell us where each family member lives, your nationalities, any current UK permission and what you want to achieve. Include any approaching visa expiry dates or planned move.

We will confirm whether we can assist, explain the proposed work and fees, and make clear what we would prepare and what we would need from you.
