UK immigration advice for visitors and business travellers

You may be planning time with family, attending an important celebration or travelling to the UK for meetings with clients and colleagues. Before making arrangements, you need to understand what permission is required and how to demonstrate that your plans meet the visitor rules.

Knightsbridge Immigration helps individuals, families and business travellers prepare for UK visits. We consider the purpose of your journey, your circumstances and the proposed activities, so you understand what needs to be addressed before travelling or submitting an application.

Visit family and friends in the UK

A visit may bring together relatives who have spent considerable time apart. You may be inviting a parent to stay, attending a family occasion or arranging a holiday with friends.

The Standard Visitor route can accommodate these purposes, subject to meeting the requirements. The application should explain the reason for the trip, its intended length, accommodation and financial arrangements, alongside your circumstances outside the UK.

Where a relative will provide accommodation or pay towards the visit, we help you understand how to explain and evidence that support.

Plan your business activities

Meetings, conferences and contract negotiations can be permitted business activities under the visitor rules. Training, technical work and activities involving UK clients require careful consideration of the specific arrangements.

We look at what you will actually do, who you will work with and how the visit will be funded. This helps establish whether the planned activities fit the visitor rules or whether another immigration route needs consideration.

For businesses inviting overseas colleagues, we can explain the information needed to describe the purpose and scope of the trip. Advice for particular professional activities is also covered on our Creative Professionals and Academics & Researchers pages.

Present a clear account of your circumstances

A visitor application needs to show that the proposed trip is credible, affordable and temporary. Financial evidence should make sense alongside your employment, business activities or other sources of support.

We consider how the documents explain your circumstances, including the funds available, the proposed expenditure and your reasons for returning after the visit. Where someone else is paying, their support needs to be explained alongside your own position.

Our preparation focuses on relevant evidence and consistency between the application, supporting documents and stated plans. If information is missing or needs clarification, we explain what requires attention and why.

Check whether you need a visa or an ETA

Depending on your nationality and circumstances, you may need a Standard Visitor visa or an electronic travel authorisation (ETA), or you may be exempt from both.

An ETA permits travel but does not guarantee entry. Travellers must still meet the relevant visitor requirements and undertake permitted activities.

We help you identify the applicable arrangements and understand what information you may need to explain your visit, including where you are travelling without a visitor visa.

Prepare for important dates and repeat visits

Family occasions and business events often have fixed dates. Early preparation allows time to obtain documents, clarify arrangements and account for the application process before making commitments.

If you expect to travel regularly, we can also consider your proposed pattern of visits. A long-term visitor visa still requires each trip to meet the visitor rules, including the restrictions on making the UK your main home through frequent or successive visits.

Discuss your proposed visit

Tell us why you want to travel, your intended dates and who will fund the trip. Include your nationality and country of residence.

Depending on your needs, support may include advice on the requirements, reviewing documents or preparing an application. We will confirm whether we can assist and explain the proposed work and fees before you instruct us.
