Further Leave to Remain

Need a UK visa extension? Knightsbridge Immigration helps with Further Leave to Remain, eligibility, supporting documents and application timing.

UK visa extensions and Further Leave to Remain

Continuing your life in the UK means keeping your immigration permission in place. Whether you are building a career, studying or living with your family, understanding your next application early gives you time to prepare.

Further Leave to Remain is permission to stay in the UK for a further limited period. For many applicants, this means a visa extension under their existing immigration route.

Knightsbridge Immigration helps you understand whether you can extend your stay, what evidence you need and when to apply.

Can you extend your current visa?

Your options depend on your current permission and whether you meet the requirements for a further application. A previous approval does not automatically mean you qualify again.

You may be able to extend a Spouse Visa, Skilled Worker Visa or Student Visa, subject to the rules for that route. Other permissions have different limits. A Graduate visa, for example, cannot be extended, although switching to another route may be possible.

We review your circumstances and explain whether an extension or Switching Visa Categories is the appropriate next step.

When should you apply for a visa extension?

You should prepare in advance and submit a valid application before your current permission expires. The earliest suitable application date depends on your route and circumstances.

Applying too early can also affect how a grant of permission fits with a future settlement application. There is no single application window that works for every visa.

We help you identify the relevant dates, allow time for supporting documents and understand how your next application fits with your longer-term plans.

Prepare evidence that reflects your circumstances

An extension requires evidence that you meet the applicable requirements now. Documents used for your previous application may need updating, and changes in your circumstances may affect what you must provide.

Depending on your route, this could include evidence of your relationship, income, accommodation, employment sponsorship or further studies.

Our support can include checking eligibility, identifying the documents needed, reviewing the evidence and preparing your application. We explain gaps or inconsistencies so you understand what needs attention before submission.

You can also understand the professional fees, Home Office application fee and Immigration Health Surcharge, where applicable, before proceeding.

Understand your position while awaiting a decision

A valid application made before your permission expires can protect your immigration status while the Home Office considers it. Where section 3C applies, your existing permission and its conditions continue, including any restrictions on work.

Travel needs particular care. Leaving the UK can affect your immigration status, and travelling outside the Common Travel Area while an application for permission to stay is pending will normally cause it to be treated as withdrawn.

Tell us about planned travel before applying so it can be considered alongside your application.

Include your family and future settlement plans

If your partner or children also need to extend their stay, their eligibility and expiry dates should be checked separately. Your extension does not automatically extend their permission.

It is also worth checking whether you qualify for Indefinite Leave to Remain before preparing another temporary application. The answer depends on your route, qualifying residence and other settlement requirements.

We help you consider these connected decisions together, so your application reflects both your immediate needs and your plans for the future.

Discuss your UK visa extension

Tell us which visa you hold, when it expires and whether your circumstances have changed. Include any family members who need to apply and any upcoming travel.

We will confirm whether we can assist and explain the proposed work and fees before you instruct us.
