Plan your next step in UK immigration
Whether you want to join family, continue working or make the UK your permanent home, understanding your next immigration step helps you plan with confidence.
Knightsbridge Immigration helps you establish where you stand, which application may be appropriate and what needs to be prepared. We consider your current circumstances alongside your longer-term plans, so you understand how the decision you make now could affect the options available later.
Your immigration route and history determine which stages are relevant to you.
Apply to come to the UK
If you are outside the UK and need a visa before travelling, Entry Clearance is the stage at which you apply for permission to come here.
The requirements depend on your reason for travelling, whether that is employment, study, business, visiting or joining family.
We assess the relevant route, explain the evidence required and help you prepare your application. This includes considering sponsorship, financial documents and any other requirements that need to be addressed before you apply.
Extend your permission to stay
If your current visa is approaching its expiry date, you may need to apply for Further Leave to Remain to continue your stay.
An extension involves checking that you meet the requirements applicable to your next application. Changes in employment, income, sponsorship or family circumstances may affect the evidence you need.
We review your existing permission and circumstances, identify the documents required and help you plan the application timing. Starting that preparation early gives you time to address missing information before your permission expires.
Move into a different immigration route
A new opportunity or change in your personal life may make Switching Visa Categories relevant. You might be moving from study into sponsored employment or considering permission based on your relationship.
We assess whether switching is permitted from your current status, whether you meet the new route’s requirements and how the change could affect your dependants and future settlement plans.
You can then decide your next step with an understanding of both the immediate application and its wider implications.
Prepare for settlement in the UK
For those who qualify, Indefinite Leave to Remain provides permission to live in the UK without a time limit on their stay.
Eligibility depends on the applicable route and your immigration history. Residence periods, absences and other route-specific requirements need to be considered together.
We review your circumstances and supporting records to assess whether you are ready to apply. Where further preparation is needed, we explain what remains outstanding and how it affects your plans.
Consider British citizenship
British Citizenship is a separate application with its own requirements. Holding settlement does not automatically mean you are ready to apply for citizenship.
We assess the relevant requirements, including residence, absences and other eligibility conditions, and explain the evidence needed for your application.
For children, we consider whether they may already be British or whether registration is appropriate. Their position can differ from that of their parents and needs to be assessed individually.
Request an Administrative Review
Some immigration decisions can be challenged through Administrative Review, which asks the Home Office to check an eligible decision for caseworking errors.
We examine the decision and the original application to establish whether we can assist. Where the matter falls within our authorised scope, we can prepare the review application and explain the process.
Deadlines are short. When enquiring, provide the decision letter and the date you received it so the relevant deadline can be identified.
Discuss your next application
Tell us what you want to achieve, where you currently live and any UK permission you hold. Include approaching expiry dates or decisions you have received.
We will confirm whether we can assist and explain the proposed work, the information needed from you and our fees before you instruct us.
