Minister of Religion Visa

UK Minister of Religion visa assistance from Knightsbridge. Understand sponsorship, English requirements and application steps. Free case review.

Taking up a religious appointment in the UK can involve significant commitments to your congregation, your sponsoring organisation and your family.

Knightsbridge helps you understand the immigration requirements and prepare a clear, properly documented Minister of Religion visa application.

About this route

The Minister of Religion visa, also called the T2 Minister of Religion route, covers qualifying sponsored appointments within a UK faith community. These can include ministers, missionaries and members of religious orders.

The duties of the appointment matter. A role centred on leading a congregation, conducting religious rites and preaching belongs under the Minister of Religion route rather than the temporary Religious Worker route.

An initial overseas grant can last up to three years and one month, depending on the sponsorship period. Eligible family members can apply as dependants, and settlement may be possible after five qualifying years.

Eligibility Check

The main questions include:

  • Are you aged 18 or over?
  • Have you received a qualifying appointment from a licensed sponsor?
  • Has your sponsor assigned a valid Certificate of Sponsorship?
  • Can you meet the English language requirement?
  • Can you meet the maintenance requirement or an applicable exemption?
  • If already in the UK, does your current permission allow the proposed application?

English is normally required at B2 in reading, writing, speaking and listening, unless an exemption applies. The evidence used to meet that requirement must be acceptable under the immigration rules.

Understanding your situation

Religious appointments vary considerably. You may have a salaried position, live within a religious community or receive accommodation and other support through your organisation.

We look at the actual duties, the proposed support arrangements and your immigration history. This helps establish whether the application fits the route and which documents will be needed from you and your sponsor.

How Knightsbridge Helps

For straightforward applications within our scope, we can review eligibility, check sponsorship information, explain the English and financial evidence requirements and prepare the application for your approval.

We also help identify inconsistencies between appointment letters, sponsorship details and the information provided in the application. If your family will accompany you, we explain the additional applications and evidence involved.

Addressing Challenges

A religious title alone does not establish the correct visa category. The application needs to reflect the duties you will actually perform.

English evidence should also be checked early. An overseas qualification taught in English may require an Ecctis assessment, while a language test must meet the relevant approval requirements. Finding this out close to the intended start date can affect the preparation timetable.

Timescales and Costs

Overseas applications usually receive a decision within three weeks after the required application steps are completed. Additional checks can take longer.

The current application fee is £819 from outside the UK or £943 to extend or switch inside the UK. Dependants pay separate application fees, and the Immigration Health Surcharge normally applies.

We confirm our professional fees, the work included and any applicable VAT before beginning paid work.

Situations requiring closer analysis

Previous refusals, immigration breaches, disputed sponsorship or issues requiring legal representations may need referral. We explain the appropriate arrangements if specialist representation is required.

Your journey with Knightsbridge

Your application begins with a conversation about the appointment and the move you are planning. We establish where you are applying from, whether sponsorship is ready and whether family members will be included. Following the initial enquiry, we agree the scope of any paid work.

Once instructed, we prepare a document plan around your circumstances. This explains the evidence needed for your identity, sponsorship, English language ability and financial position. We review the documents as a whole and raise questions while there is still time to resolve them.

Before submission, we take you through the application so you can confirm its accuracy and understand what is being presented. We then explain the remaining identity verification steps and the correspondence covered by our engagement.

After the decision, we help you understand your immigration conditions and the dates to keep under review. Future extensions, family applications and settlement work are agreed separately when required.
