Plan your marriage and your next immigration step with clear advice from the outset.
Bringing your partner to the UK to marry involves both an initial visa application and planning for permission after the ceremony. Knightsbridge helps you understand the requirements, prepare the evidence and organise the two stages around your circumstances.
About this route
The fiancé, fiancée or proposed civil partner route can allow you to enter the UK to marry or form a civil partnership with a British or settled partner, or someone holding another qualifying status. Both partners must be at least 18, have met in person and intend to live together permanently in the UK.
Permission is normally granted for up to six months. You must be free to marry or form a civil partnership, and intend the ceremony to take place within that period.
Eligibility Check
Consider these questions:
- Does your partner hold a qualifying status?
- Is your relationship genuine and continuing?
- Have you met each other in person?
- Have previous marriages or civil partnerships legally ended?
- Can you evidence your plans to marry within six months?
- Can you meet the financial, accommodation and English requirements?
A wedding booking is one part of the preparation. The application must also establish the relationship and the wider immigration requirements.
Understanding your situation
You may be arranging a ceremony from overseas, coordinating family travel or deciding when to relocate. We discuss your relationship history, proposed arrangements, sponsor’s circumstances and realistic application timetable.
We also consider the period after arrival. Understanding the later partner application at the outset helps you plan the documents, costs and deadlines involved in remaining together in the UK.
How Knightsbridge Helps
Our agreed service can include:
- Assessing eligibility and confirming the appropriate application.
- Reviewing relationship evidence and proposed ceremony arrangements.
- Checking finances, accommodation and English evidence.
- Providing a tailored document list.
- Preparing the application and explaining it for your review.
- Supporting submission and relevant follow-up within the agreed engagement.
We explain the requirements for the later partner application so you can plan ahead. Any work on that separate application is expressly scoped and agreed, with its own government charges and professional fee.
Addressing Challenges
For most new applications, the minimum income requirement is £29,000 annually. Qualifying savings can be relevant, and a different assessment applies where the sponsor receives specified benefits. Income sources and the required evidence need checking before submission.
Fiancé permission does not allow work or study. Marriage itself does not give you those rights: after the ceremony, you must apply for partner permission, and work or study becomes permitted when that application is approved. Time on fiancé permission does not count towards the standard five-year partner settlement period.
We help you plan around these restrictions and identify evidence gaps before the application is submitted.
Timescales and Costs
The standard overseas decision time is usually twelve weeks after the identity and evidence requirements are completed. Faster processing may be available, but availability and decision times vary.
The current overseas application fee is £2,064. The initial fiancé grant of up to six months does not attract the Immigration Health Surcharge. A later application within the UK has a separate fee, currently £1,407, and normally requires the surcharge.
We confirm our professional fee, scope and any applicable VAT in writing. Your budget should account for both application stages.
Situations requiring closer analysis
Tell us about previous refusals, earlier marriages, children, complex income arrangements or a ceremony timetable that may be difficult to meet.
If you intend to leave the UK after the ceremony, we check whether the marriage visitor route better matches your plans.
If you are already in the UK, we assess the correct application before recommending how to proceed.
Your journey with Knightsbridge
We begin by understanding your relationship, your plans to marry in the UK and your partner’s circumstances. We then assess the requirements that apply to you and agree a clear plan for preparing your application. You receive a tailored document list, with an explanation of what each item needs to demonstrate. As the evidence comes together, we review it, identify any gaps and clarify anything that needs further attention.
We prepare your application and supporting explanations, then take you through them before submission. This gives you the opportunity to check the details, ask questions and understand how your circumstances have been presented. Once the application is submitted, we keep you informed of updates we receive and deal with any further requests covered by our agreed service.
We also help you plan for the next stage after marriage, including the application timing, documents and costs to consider. Any later partner application is agreed as a separate service, so you know what is included at each stage.
